Harvard University to start a branch in Sri Lanka

Yesterday Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg got his Harvard University Degree after many years. 

Why Harvard is Unique?

The strength of the university is its large number of inventors born from that university. For many years Harvard University produced a long line of Entrepreneurs who changed the world. So no one goes to Harvard and expect to find a day job.

Why a University in Sri Lanka can't be a Harvard?

Sri Lankan universities are targeting job market rather than developing entrepreneurship skills. So as a result graduates from universities are afraid to start even a small boutique. But among all universities in Sri Lanka, Engineering Faculty of University of Moratuwa is currently trying to change the trend and they are moving towards creating a model to develop engineering entrepreneurs, which needs to be studied and executed by all other universities.

What is the importance of graduates becoming entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka?

Basically Sri Lanka is a developing country since 1948. It seems there is no way Sri Lankan government can convert this country into a developed country in foreseeable future. Further Sri Lanka doesn't possess any significant natural resources like crude Oil. But on top of all, Sri Lanka has a set of young intelligent people with their potential wasted everyday by putting them in to a routine job. But to boost the micro and small scale industry in Sri Lanka, we need to encourage undergraduates & graduates to go and start a new business. If a thousand of graduates could take the risk today, benefit to the economy will flow in five to ten years time. If this process can be well executed, we have a strong chance to make Sri Lanka a developed country.

Then Sri Lankan universities will shine.
